Ellen J. Flannery
Ellen J. Flannery the Secretary of the American Bar Foundation. Ms. Flannery is a partner in the law firm of Covington & Burling LLP, Washington, DC. She is co-chair of the firm’s Food & Drug practice group and advises clients on matters relating to regulation of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and biological products. Ms. Flannery advises both early-stage and established companies on regulatory strategy and compliance issues, including representation of diagnostic companies and clinical laboratories. Prior to joining Covington, she was a law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Ms. Flannery has taught food and drug law at Boston University School of Law, the University of Maryland Law School, and the University of Virginia Law School. She has written articles on FDA regulation, and serves on the editorial boards of the Guide to Medical Device Regulation and the Food and Drug Administration Enforcement Manual. She is an officer of the American Bar Association Section of Science & Technology Law, member of the ABA House of Delegates, and on the Board of the American Bar Foundation. Ms. Flannery received her AB, cum laude, from Mount Holyoke College and her JD, cum laude, from Boston University School of Law.
