David A. Collins
David A. Collins is Vice President of the Board of the American Bar Foundation. Prior to joining the law firm Dykema, Mr. Collins was Executive Director of Corporate Compliance for General Motors Corporation. In that role he was responsible for organizing and managing the company's corporate compliance and ethics program and assuring that it met the standards of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. He also represented GM in cross-industry organizations of corporate compliance and ethics officers, including the Compliance and Ethics Leadership Council and the Ethics Resource Center. During the course of his career at General Motors, Mr. Collins served GM in several capacities, including General Counsel of Saturn Corporation, Corporate Secretary of GM, and Group Counsel for GM Powertrain. Mr. Collins had responsibility at General Motors for a variety of projects relating to automotive marketing and distribution. This included development of dealer agreements used by Saturn Corporation in the U.S. and by GM subsidiaries and affiliates in Asia.
Throughout his career he has worked in variety of capacities. Before entering law school, Mr. Collins served as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural El Salvador. His publications include "Compliance programs as quality control", Corporate Secretary (July 2008). He has also served on several boards, including, Director, American Bar Foundation; Member of Executive Committee and co-chair of Finance and Audit Committee; Member of Administration Committee for American Bar Association's employee pension plan; Member, Board of Directors for the American Bar Museum; Chair, Executive Board, Center for the Study of Citizenship (Wayne State University), 2004-2006; Board of Visitors, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Wayne State University, 2004-2006; Chair, Board of Directors, Downtown Detroit YMCA, 1990-1994.
