Center for International Human Rights,Journal of International Human Rights - Atrocity Crimes Litigation Year-in-Review (2008) Conference

Distinguished judicial practitioners and scholars examine the jurisprudence of the international and hybrid criminal tribunals during the calendar year 2008 in this singular annual conference in the United States. The 2008 decisions and judgments of the International Criminal Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, the International Criminal Court, and the War Crimes Chamber of the State Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be discussed by nine leading practitioners and scholars of the tribunals: Prosecutor Hassan Jallow (ICTR), Prosecutor Serge Brammertz (ICTY), Prosecutor Stephen Rapp (SCSL), Deputy Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda (ICC), International Co-Prosecutor Robert Petit (ECCC), Judge Elizabeth Fahey (Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2007-2008), Defense Counsel Gillian Higgins (ICTY), Professor Beth Van Schaack (Santa Clara University School of Law), and Professor David Scheffer (Northwestern University School of Law & former U.S. Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues). Northwestern University Professors John Hagan and Stephen Kinzer describe their recent books on Rwanda and Darfur at lunch (by invitation only).
