CHICAGO, IL - Jimmy K. Goodman, a senior trial lawyer with Crowe & Dunlevy, P.C., has been elected chair of The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation. The American Bar Foundation is the nation’s leading research institute for the empirical study of law. An independent, nonprofit organization, for more than fifty years the ABF has advanced the understanding and improvement of law through research projects of unmatched scale and quality on the most pressing issues facing the legal system in the United States and the world. The foundation’s membership body, The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation, is an honorary organization of lawyers, judges, and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession. Goodman has provided standout leadership among his colleagues in his native Oklahoma and nationally in his service to the profession, to The Fellows organization, and the American Bar Foundation at large. Prior to assuming his new position as chair, Goodman served as chair –elect and secretary of The Fellows.
“Being selected as chair of The Fellows is a great honor and a sacred trust, for which I am most grateful,” said Goodman. He added, “I am blessed that Dave Houghton is chair-elect and Kay Hodge is secretary, and we hope our stewardship of this trust will build measurably on the legacy and vision of the dedicated and creative Fellows’ officers who preceded us.”
A past president of Crowe and Dunlevy, Goodman has been trying civil lawsuits since 1973, specializing in complex business and commercial litigation. He received his J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he served on the Stanford Law Review. Selected by his peers for listing in The Best Lawyers in America, and also recognized in Oklahoma SuperLawyers, he has tried cases before state, federal, bankruptcy and tribal courts in Oklahoma and surrounding states. He is Oklahoma delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates and has held numerous leadership positions in the ABA Section of Litigation. He has also served on the ABA Council on Racial and Ethnic Justice and the Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession, and currently is a member of the ABA Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.
In 2006, Goodman received the Oklahoma Bar Association John E. Shipp Award for Ethics. Oklahoma County Bar Association presented him with both the Leadership in Law Award for service to the legal profession, especially toward increasing diversity and pro bono service, and its highest award, the Bobby G. Knapp Bar Leadership Award for sustained leadership, distinguished by stewardship and professionalism reflecting the highest values of the legal community. He is a former president of the Oklahoma Bar Foundation, and is also actively engaged in civic, community, and philanthropic activities in his hometown of Oklahoma City.
