Texas Life Fellow George C. Chapman

Texas Life Fellow George C. Chapman is the recipient of The University of Texas School of Law's Lifetime Achievement Award. With this award, the Law Alumni Association recognizes an alumnus who epitomizes the highest goals and traditions of the profession: diligence, discernment, integrity, and a commitment to the betterment of our civic life. The award was presented at the school's Alumni Awards Dinner on April 17, 2009, in Austin, Texas.

Chapman is Senior Counsel in the Trial Practice Group in Thompson & Knight's Dallas office and was a Partner of the Firm for more than 40 years. His primary area of practice is general and commercial litigation. He served nine years on Thompson & Knight's Management Committee. He has been elected to The Best Lawyers in America in Bet-the-Company Litigation and Commercial Litigation since the list's inception 26 years ago, and he has been named to Texas Super Lawyers in Business Litigation for the past six years.

He served for 20 years on The University of Texas Law School Foundation Board of Trustees and three years on the Executive Committee of the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors. He served on more than 10 State Bar Committees, including chairing the Federal Judiciary Selection Committee. He also served as Chairman of the Committee for a Qualified Judiciary for nine years.

Chapman served as President of the Dallas Bar Association (DBA) and as Chairman of its Board of Directors. He received the Morris Harrell Professionalism Award from the DBA in 2008. He was the primary author of the Code of Pretrial Conduct of American College of Trial Lawyers, endorsed by U.S. Supreme Court Justice William H. Rehnquist in May 2003 and distributed to all Federal District Judges in the U.S.
