John H. MartinTexas Fellow John H. Martin has been named President-Elect of Lawyers for Civil Justice, a national organization of defense lawyers and corporate counsel dedicated to fairness and improvements within the civil justice system. Lawyers for Civil Justice supports activities at both the state and national level designed to achieve reforms that will ensure balance in the civil justice system. Long-range goals include greater predictability in damage awards, streamlining the discovery process and improving the management of litigation and scarce judicial resources. Martin will become President of the organization in May of 2010.

John H. Martin is a Partner in the Trial Practice Group of Thompson & Knight's Dallas office and is a member of the Complex Tort and Products Liability Practice Group. He is widely recognized for his legal work and public speaking on the subjects of catastrophic injury, mass tort, and aviation litigation. He is one of the state's most distinguished attorneys in the civil defense field. Martin serves as Immediate Past President of DRI-The Voice of the Defense Bar and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, International Academy of Trial Lawyers, The Center for American and International Law, Texas Bar Foundation and Dallas Bar Foundation. He is also a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas and International Association of Defense Counsel and serves on the Board of Directors for the National Foundation for Judicial Excellence.
