Robert L. Brown, Kentucky Life Fellow, Awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette

Robert L. Brown, Kentucky Life Fellow, was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette in recognition of his efforts to strengthen ties between Japan and the U.S.  It was announced by the Emperor on November 3, 2017 and awarded January 19, 2018.  This recognition is a Japanese government honor established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji.  The Order was the first national decoration awarded by the Japanese Government.  It was created on April 10, 1875 by decree of the Council of State.  Robert has served as chair of the Japan Society in San Francisco and twice as chair of the Japan Society in Kentucky.  He has a graduate degree from Jochi Daigaku in Japan and has written several books on doing business in Asia.  He previously was qualified as a foreign lawyer in Japan and is now chair-elect of the Section of International Law, American Bar Association.
