Barbara J. Gislason, a solo attorney in Fridley, Minnesota, has recently been appointed to Chair the Intellectual Property Law Committee of the ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS), and reappointed to Chair the Insurance & Risk Management Committee of the ABA Intellectual Property Law Section.
"These appointments are extremely rare for a solo attorney in the ABA," says Ms. Gislason. "Out of 300,000 national members, there are 2 or 3 solo attorneys who hold high leadership positions across sections."
Ms. Gislason continues to Chair the Emergency Management in Family Law Task Force for the ABA Family Law Section and serves as liaison for two Sections to the ABA Special Committee on Disaster Response and Preparedness. She recently chaired a special Blue Ribbon Panel for the Minnesota State Bar Association Family Law Section on the Rules of Professional Responsibility. She continues to serve in leadership positions for the ABA TIPS Animal Law Committee and the Minnesota State Bar Association Animal Law Section, both of which she founded.
Ms. Gislason has recently been appointed Co-Chair of the Minnesota Fellows of the American Bar Foundation. Her Co-Chair is Professor Robert A. Stein, Everett Fraser Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota and past Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the American Bar Association.
