Paul M. Smith, D.C. Fellows Vice-Chair and Life Fellow, Honored at 2018 Commission on Human Rights Awards Gala

Paul M. Smith, D.C. Fellows Vice-Chair and Life Fellow and Vice President at Campaign Legal Center, was recently honored at the 2018 Commission on Human Rights Awards Gala.  Mr. Smith is an accomplished civil rights advocate that has played a critical role in several important cases advancing civil liberties nationally. He has more than three decades of experience litigating a wide range of cases and has argued by the U.S. Supreme Court 21 times and secured numerous victories, including Lawrence v. Texas.

The Human Rights Awards Gala is held each December to commemorate the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).  2018 year marks the 70th anniversary of the UDHR.  The gala also honors the recipient of the Cornelius R. "Neil" Alexander Humanitarian Award. The Cornelius R. "Neil" Alexander Humanitarian Award is named in honor of the longtime Chief Administrative Law Judge of the District's Commission on Human Rights, who worked with the Commission for almost 20 years and was recognized as an expert in human rights law.
