November 7, 2013, Fellows in the news, NJ.com

The Honorable Jack L. Lintner (retired), a Member of the Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., received the 2013 Trial Attorneys of New Jersey Professional Lawyer of the Year Award from the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law. The award is to honor attorneys whose character, competence, and commitment to the highest professional standards mark them as outstanding members of the bar.

The award was presented to Judge Lintner at the Professionalism Awards Luncheon on Oct. 17, at the Imperia in Somerset. The keynote speaker was the Honorable Jerome Simandle, Chief Judge of the United States District Court.

“We are extremely proud of Judge Lintner. After having had the pleasure of working with him for the past five years, we can all attest that he is very deserving of this honor,” said Alison L. Galer, Managing Partner of the firm.

The New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law is a unique cooperative venture of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the state and federal judiciary, and New Jersey's three law schools. The Commission was formed in response to increasing displeasure within the bar about the future direction of the profession, and public criticism of lawyers and the legal system. It hopes to contribute to a strengthening of the traditional values, and sense of responsibility and public purpose, that have made the practice of law a distinguished profession. Moreover, it hopes its work helps to increase public respect for judges and the justice system. Towards this end, the Commission develops programs and initiatives for lawyers, judges, and law students. It sponsors and participates in educational seminars, takes positions on professional responsibility issues, and serves as an information resource for bar associations.

Judge Jack L. Lintner, a resident of Hillsborough, focuses his practice on alternative dispute resolution, insurance coverage issues and appellate advocacy consultation. He served 20 years in the New Jersey State Judiciary, appointed to the Appellate Division in 1999. He was a Presiding Judge of the Appellate Division from 2006 through his retirement in 2008. Judge Lintner began his judicial career as a trial judge in the Superior Court in Middlesex County in 1988, where he spent nine years in the civil court attaining the positions of Presiding Judge of the Civil and Chancery Divisions. During his tenure as a trial judge, he presided over the State tobacco litigation and dissolution of the Health Insurance Plan of New Jersey. While serving in the Law and Chancery Divisions, he was responsible for setting up and participating in numerous successful court-run mediation and settlement programs.

During his judicial career, Judge Lintner published over 100 opinions. He served on the Appellate Attorney Standards, the Appellate Division/Assignment Judge Liaison Standing and the New Jersey Supreme Court Civil Practice Committees. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Civil Procedure Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law.

Prior to his appointment to the bench in 1988, Judge Lintner’s practice concentrated on civil litigation in both the state and federal courts. He was a Certified Civil Trial Attorney and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey. He specialized in tort, products liability, construction, and insurance coverage litigation.

Judge Lintner has lectured extensively on a variety of topics for the New Jersey Judicial College and Institute for Continuing Legal Education. He is a recipient of the 2008 James J. McLaughlin Award from the Civil Trial Bar Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the 2001 Distinguished Service Award from the Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
