Scope & Submission Details

 Law & Social Inquiry accepts manuscripts year-round through our submission portal, ScholarOne ManuscriptsLSI publishes original empirical and theoretical studies of law that contribute to the understanding of sociolegal processes. The content is diverse and multidisciplinary, including topics based in: Anthropology, Criminology, Economics, History, Law, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology and Social Psychology.

LSI strongly prefers submissions to adhere to a 15,000 word limit, including footnotes and endnotes. Please be sure to include these in your word count when saving your file for submission.  If your manuscript is over 15,000 words, please submit a cover letter with your submission explaining the length.  We will allow up to 17,500 words for papers using qualitative, historical, narrative, or multiple methodologies. Articles are typically reviewed by three or more referees and decisions on manuscripts are made by the editors. Original manuscripts spend anywhere from three to five months under review.

Upon submission, please make sure your manuscript has been properly formatted. All manuscripts must be submitted as a Word document and all text (abstract, references, body text, notes) must be double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt. font. The margins should be set to 1.5” on all sides, the main document must not have a title page (a title page can be uploaded separately and designated as "Title Page" in the right-hand drop-down list on the Scholar One upload page). All headers and footers must not contain any author names to allow for blinded review.
