Scope & Submission Details

Law & Social Inquiry accepts manuscripts year-round through our submission portal,  ScholarOne Manuscripts.  LSI publishes original empirical and theoretical studies of law that contribute to the understanding of sociolegal processes.  Articles first undergo an internal LSI review.  Approved articles are then sent out to expert scholars for peer review.  LSI operates under a double-blind peer-review system, whereby each article is reviewed by 3-4 anonymous referees. The peer review process lasts 3-5 months. If the editors and reviewers recommend major or minor revisions to the paper, the paper is re-reviewed by the initial referees. Decisions on manuscripts are ultimately made by our editorial committee.

LSI requires that submissions adhere to a 15,000 word limit, including footnotes and endnotes.  All manuscripts must be submitted as a Word document and all text (abstract, references, body text, notes) must be double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt. font. The margins should be 1.5” on all sides and the main document must not have a title page (a title page can be uploaded separately and designated as "Title Page" in the right-hand drop-down list on the Scholar One upload page). All headers and footers must not contain any author names to allow for blinded review. We do not require submitted manuscripts to be formatted according to LSI's citation guidelines. Although all accepted articles will need to be brought into conformity with LSI's in-text citation style (Chicago style), we will consider articles that use footnotes, including law-review style footnotes.

For more details about the submission process, see our page on the Wiley-Blackwell site.
