The Access to Justice Research Initiative’s Early Career Workshop provides support for early-career researchers interested in access to civil justice scholarship, offering an opportunity to make connections, explore interdisciplinary research, and build a robust and inclusive access to justice field for the next generation of scholars.
With 16 Scholars supported so far, Early Career Workshop participants’ research projects have spanned a range of civil justice issues. Research topics have included legal aid and housing, language rights in state courts, the impact of domestic violence on housing and economic status, civil legal aid funding sources, and non-attorney legal advocates and immigration services.
The program has already demonstrated impact on participants’ careers, research, and networks. Alumni of the program have raised over $1.3 million in funding to continue to expand access to civil justice research nationwide, and have shared their findings and insights with both domestic and international audiences at conferences and workshops.
The Access to Justice Research Initiative’s Early Career Workshop continues to strengthen the pipeline of early-career Scholars, building the body of empirical evidence on access to civil justice and inequality that informs policy, practice, and reform towards meaningful access to justice for all.
