Juan R. Thomas, Life Fellow, was sworn in as President of the Illinois Bar Foundation (IBF) during the Illinois State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting in June, in St. Louis. With his presidential term beginning, he becomes the second African American to serve as President of the organization since its founding in 1951.

The Illinois Bar Foundation is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and supports meaningful access-to-justice initiatives and programs that strengthen the legal profession throughout Illinois, in addition to assisting lawyers who can no longer care for themselves due to incapacity. Thomas currently serves on the American Bar Association Board of Governors and previously served as President of the National Bar Association.

He is currently Of Counsel to Clifford Law Offices and previously served as Founder and Principal Partner of The Thomas Law Group and as Labor Counsel to Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White. The Illinois Supreme Court appointed Juan in 2024 to the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission Review Board, the state agency that regulates and disciplines lawyers in the state.
