Justice Cheryl E. Chambers, Fellow, Named President of the New York Bar Foundation

Justice Cheryl E. Chambers, Fellow, was named as the new president of the New York Bar Foundation. Her time as president began on June 1st, though Justice Chambers has already been involved in the foundation for years, having served as the foundation’s vice president and as a member of its board of directors for a decade.

The New York Bar Foundation serves as the philanthropic arm of of the New York State Bar Association, which Justice Chambers has also been involved in. She is a member of the association’s Finance Committee and the House of Delegates.

Justice Chambers is currently an associate justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department of the state Supreme Court and has been in this role since her appointment in 2008. Her appointment made her the second woman of color to serve in any Appellate Division in the state and the first to serve in a senior seat. The Brooklyn Bar Association honored her previously with the the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Beacon Award, the Trail Blazer Award, and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Jurisprudence.
