The Stonewall Award was created by the ABA Board of Governors in 2011. The award seeks to honor lawyers, members of the judiciary, and legal academics who have sought to enact real change to remove barriers sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression in the legal profession and the world, nation, state, and/or locale and to recognize those who have championed diversity for the LGBT community, both within the legal profession and impacting the greater human universe.

Galles is the founder of Equity Legal and has built a career on representing students in Title IX equal protection or gender equity and sexual harassment cases against school and state athletic associations. She has served the ABA in various roles for the ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice and the Labor and Employment, Litigation and Business Law sections. In 2022 Galles received the Ramey Gender Justice Award from the Equal Rights Advocates reserved for those serving ERA’s mission with the highest distinction.
