Michael Jacobs, Life Fellow, Named as the 2024 John Minor Wisdom Award Recipient

May 14, 2024

Michael Jacobs, Life Fellow, was named as the 2024 John Minor Wisdom Award recipient by the ABA Litigation Section. The award is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to the quality of justice in legal communities, ensuring that the legal system is open and available to all.

It was established in 1990 to honor Judge Wisdom, who was a scholar and jurist on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Judge Wisdom is known for landmark decisions, such as writing the opinion that allowed James Meredith to attend the University of Mississippi and was part of “the Fifth Circuit Four”, that enforced the mandate of Brown v. Board of Education.

Jacobs recently retired from Morrison Foerster and is being honored for his efforts over 25 years to give tangible form to the California state constitution’s promise of equal educational opportunity for all schoolchildren, such as Williams v. California and Ella T. v. State of California. He will be presented with the award at the ABA’s 2024 Litigation Section Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. on May 2, 2024.
