Pauline Weaver, Patron Fellow, Named Recipient of the 2024 Pickering Award

The award is named after John H. Pickering, who was involved in a wide variety of pro bono activities and law-related societal issues affecting the elderly. The award is co-sponsored by the ABA Senior Lawyers Division, Commission on Law and Aging, Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice, Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, and Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defendants.

Weaver spent much of her career as a public defender in Alameda County, while also serving the profession in numerous positions such as being the past president of both the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations and California Women Lawyers. She has participated in many civic affairs, such as serving as chair of the Fremont Planning Commission, the Sister City Commission, the Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation and the Fremont Symphony. In May 2019, a Fremont senior residential center was named after her to honor her longtime advocacy work for affordable housing in California.
