Heba Alex is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago. Her research engages with the fields of comparative-historical sociology, political and cultural sociology, and sociology of law. She is interested in questions about the relationship between citizenship and rights, differentiation struggles within groups, and categorization and evaluation processes. Her research has been funded by the Pozen Center and W. Allison Davis Graduate Research Award at the University of Chicago, and the ABF Fellowship. Before pursuing her doctoral studies, Heba worked at the International Center for Transitional Justice in New York and earned an M.A. in Gender and Women’s Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
