ABF Researcher

January 2024 – August 2024

Kamaria B. Porter is an Assistant Professor of Education Policy Studies at Pennsylvania State University. Her research examines gender and racial inequalities in higher education, particularly university response to assault, graduate education, and faculty experiences.

As a Ph.D. student at the University of Michigan, she was a researcher on the University Responses to Sexual Assault project. In an article written by Porter and her collaborators, their analysis of 381 university sexual misconduct policies found that most schools’ procedures for investigating and adjudicating complaints of sexual misconduct incorporated due process protections while acknowledging, but often not fully meeting, Title IX obligations.

During her time at the ABF, Porter will be working on a research project to identify barriers to higher education for currently and formerly incarcerated students. In addition, Porter will be continuing her research on Black college women’s experiences with sexual assault exposure and navigating reporting options.
