ABF Researcher

Vivian Reutens (she/her) is a rising junior at New York University. A Presidential Honors Scholar at NYU, Reutens is pursuing a dual major in Economics and Mathematics and a minor in Chinese Language. As a researcher, Reutens is interested in how emerging technology is affecting and being affected by markets and regulatory systems.

Reutens is the cofounder and president of PETAL, NYU’s first interdisciplinary club dedicated to the intersection of policy, ethics, tech, accountability, and law. In her capacity as cofounder and president, she has collaborated with the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law & Policy, the Center for Social Media and Politics, Tech Policy Press, and other organizations to organize events on topics such as data privacy and digital surveillance. Reutens has interviewed candidates for policial office in New York about how tech policy fits into their platforms, and she is a Technology Policy Fellow at the Alliance for Civic Engagement.

Reutens is a coordinator for Give Where You Live, a student volunteering program. As the head dining hall coordinator for Two Birds One Stone, she manages deliveries of unserved food to community fridges.

After college, Reutens hopes to pursue a JD/PhD in Economics to explore her interest in technology regulation. Reutens will work with ABF Research Professor and University of Chicago Richard M. Lipton Professor of Tax Law Jacob Goldin on his research projects centered on US tax policy affecting low-income households.
