Professor Emeritus Norman Otto Stockmeyer, Michigan Life Fellow, Receives Scribes Lifetime Achievement Award

Norman Otto Stockmeyer, Michigan Life Fellow and Professor Emeritus at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, has received the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award from Scribes – The American Society of Legal Writers. Professor Stockmeyer’s recognition comes after 40 years of work with the society, including thirteen years on the Board of Directors and two as the board president. He is an award-winning teacher and author, whose prolific writing on the topics of legal education and legal writing are published in various publications and blogs.

Professor Stockmeyer’s commitment to the profession extends beyond the art of clear legal communication. He has dedicated years of service to bar associations at the local, state, and national levels, working with the Ingham County Bar Association Board of Directors, the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners, and the American Bar Association House of Delegates. As President of the Michigan Bar Foundation, he helped launch the foundation’s Fellows Program, which has raised more than $2 million to provide legal services to people in financial need.
