ABF/University of Chicago Doctoral Fellowship Program in Law and Social Science

The ABF partners with the University of Chicago to offer the ABF/University of Chicago Doctoral Fellowship Program in Law and Social Science. Selected scholars participate in this fellowship in residence at the ABF where their original and significant research on law, the legal profession, and legal institutions will be supported.

Applications are invited from Ph.D. candidates in the University of Chicago’s Social Sciences Division who have completed all doctoral requirements except the dissertation prior to the start of the fellowship term and expect to receive funding from the University of Chicago during the years of the fellowship. Doctoral and proposed research must be in the general area of sociolegal studies or in social scientific approaches to law, legal institutions, the legal profession, or social justice. Research must address significant issues in the field and show promise of a major contribution to social scientific understanding of law and justice.
