Recap of the Fellows Events at the 2025 Midyear Meeting

February 21, 2025

Our time in Phoenix began with the Fellows CLE, co-sponsored by the ABA Senior Lawyers Division, on Friday afternoon, with a presentation from ABF Research Professor Emeritus Stephen Daniels and a panel discussion that included Professor Michele Statz of the University of Minnesota Medical School, Rodolfo Sanchez of DNA – People’s Legal Services, and was moderated by Don Bivens of Don Bivens, PLLC. Check out the audio recording and photos below.

Our Fellows Opening Reception was a home run, as it took place at Chase Field, inside of the Arizona Diamondbacks 20th Anniversary Experience! Fellows were able to check out Diamondbacks history and get a view of the field.

This year, the Fellows Tour took a group to Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and desert laboratory. Wright constructed Taliesin West largely of “desert masonry” to preserve as much of the desert environment as possible.

We were lucky enough to spend Saturday night at the Heard Museum for the 69th Annual Fellows Awards Reception and Banquet. That night we honored Outstanding Service Award winner Professor Myles Lynk, Outstanding Scholar Award winner Dean Erwin Chemerinsky, and Outstanding State Chair winner Julianne P. Blanch. After the awards were presented, Fellows were able to hear from Professor Ned Blackhawk, author of “The Rediscovery of America: Native Peoples and the Unmaking of U.S. History,” in a fireside chat with ABF Fellows Chair Frank X. Neuner, Jr. Photos can be found below from the event!

Fellows events were still going Sunday night, with the Life Fellow Champagne Toast, co-sponsored by Dean Cynthia Nance and the University of Arkansas Law School, where Fellows were able to hear from Dean Nance and ABA President Bill Bay. Following the Toast, the beloved Fellows Sing-Along, generously sponsored by Jo Ann Engelhardt, ended the night!
