Recap of the Fellows Events at the 2026 ABA Annual Conference

August 12, 2026

The Fellows events kicked off with the Fellows CLE Friday morning, featuring a panel moderated by past National Fellows Chair Jennifer Parent and a discussion with ABF Research Professor Reuben Jonathan Miller around his book Halfway Home: Race, Punishment, and the Afterlife of Mass Incarceration, and Calvin Duncan, author of The Jailhouse Lawyer, titled “The Afterlife of Mass Incarceration.”  The panel explored life before, during, and after incarceration, and the ways that criminal law and the public shape social and civic trajectories of people who have done time.

After a day of section meetings, expert sessions and a variety of CLE’s, Fellows came together at the Fellows Opening Reception at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, enjoying a night steps from Lake Michigan, among the history of the first law school established in Chicago. Fellows and their guests enjoyed lively conversation over cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and live jazz music. Photos from the night can be found below.

The Fellows Business Breakfast on Saturday morning had a full agenda as Fellows celebrated outgoing State Chairs, thanked Jennifer Parent for her time as the National Fellows Chair, voted on bylaw changes, and heard from ABF Life Fellow Robert Bailey, Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author. Bailey is renowned for his gripping legal thrillers that draw on his decades of experience as a civil defense trial lawyer. Find photos from the breakfast below.
