November 21, 2022

Reginald M. Turner Jr., Michigan Leadership Fellow, Past Fellows Chair and Immediate Past President of the ABA was announced as one of the 2023 Spirit of Excellence Award Winners. The award is presented by the ABA’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession and will be awarded to the recipients at a ceremony on February 4th, 2023 at the ABA Midyear Meeting in New Orleans.

The Spirit of Excellence Award celebrates the efforts and accomplishments of lawyers who promote a more racially and ethnically diverse legal professor. In addition to Mr. Turner, the other recipients are Chief Judge Roger Gregory, Diandra Benally, and Honorable Justice Goodwin Liu, who has worked with Ajay Mehrotra, past ABF Executive Director, on Portrait Project 2.0.

Mr. Turner is a lawyer with Clark Hill in Detroit, where he is an litigator, government affairs advocate and strategic advisor. In addition to being the immediate past president of the ABA, he is also past president of the National Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan. He is the former chair of the ABA Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession, where he developed policies and procedures that enhanced the commission and its work.
