District of Columbia Patron Fellow Sheila S. Hollis has been at the forefront of energy and environmental law practice for over 20 years, and in October, the Women, Influence & Power in Law (WIPL) Network took notice. At an award ceremony hosted by Law.com and Corporate Counsel, WIPL presented Ms. Hollis with a Lifetime Achievement Award, acknowledging her contributions to the field both domestically and abroad.
The Duane Morris D.C. office Chair is a widely published thought leader who has spoken about a broad range of legal topics over the years. At Duane Morris, she helped to create the Energy, Environment and Resources Practice Group and served on the firm’s Executive Committee and Partners Board. For the Federal government, Ms. Hollis was a charter member of the Senior Executive Service, a trial lawyer for the Federal Power Commission, and the first director for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Office of Enforcement. She was a Standing Committee member for the Federal Judiciary that selected Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court, and she also lectured at George Washington University School of Law’s Environmental and Energy Law Program for two decades.
Ms. Hollis is an active ABA leader who has chaired the Standing Committee on the Law Library of Congress and the Section of Environment, Energy and Resources. She also has experience on a number of boards and advisory committees for organizations such as the United States Energy Association, the Center for American and International Law, and the American Friends of the Royal Society. She served as the President of the Women’s Council on Energy and the Environment and was the first woman President of the Energy Bar Association. Her other accolades include honorary admission in the Commercial Bar of England and Wales, a Legacy Award from Petroleum Economist, and a Lifetime Achievement in Energy Award from Platt’s Global Energy. Ms. Hollis was selected as one of only 100 women to share her oral history as part of the ABA Women Trailblazers Project.
