Dean Cynthia Nance, Arkansas Patron Fellow and Immediate Past Chair of the Fellows was named as the 2023 recipient of the AALS Section on Women in Legal Education’s Ruth Bader Ginsburg Lifetime Achievement Award. She will be presented with the award at the AALS Annual meeting on January 6th, 2023, in San Diego, CA.
The Section on Women in Legal Education says that the “purpose of this award is to honor an individual who has had a distinguished career of teaching, service, and scholarship for at least 20 years. The recipient should be someone who has impacted women, the legal community, the academy, and the issues that affect women through mentoring, writing, speaking, activism, and by providing opportunities to others.”
Dean Nance’s career has spanned nearly 30 years so far, full of teaching, service and scholarship. She first became the dean of the University of Arkansas Fayetteville Law School in 2006 and was the first person of African American descent to serve in the role in the law school’s at the time 82-year-old history.
