Judge Angelo Mathay, Fellow, was recognized by UCLA and George Washington Law for his career surrounding public interest law. GW Law named Judge Mathay as one of their Richey Fellows for the 2025-2026 academic year. In addition, UCLA Alumni Affairs honored Judge Mathay with the Bruin Excellence in Civic Engagement Award.

The Richey Fellow Program at GW Law brings mid-career public interest lawyers to the campus as a resource for students who are considering non-profit or public sector legal careers. The program is named in honor of the Hon. Charles R. Richey of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, and each semester two distinguished attorneys from a broad range of public interest and public sector practice areas are invited to provide diverse perspectives about their careers. The Bruin Excellence in Civic Engagement Award recognizes alumni who are serving in civic positions and making a difference in people’s lives.
Judge Mathay currently serves as an Administrative Judge at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission based in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he adjudicates employment discrimination claims filed by federal employees in three southeastern states. He currently serves on the North Carolina Human Relations Commission and the North Carolina Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
