Marina A. Torres, Fellow, Appointed to the Medical Board of California

Marina A. Torres, Fellow, was appointed by California Governor Gavin Newsome to the Medical Board of California. The Board is currently made up of 15 people, 8 physicians and 7 public members, most of whom are appointed by the Governor except for 1 public member is appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly and 1 public member is appointed by the Senate Rules Committee.

The Medical Board of California is the agency that handles the licensing and discipline for medical doctors. They provide two principal types of services to California consumers which are ensuring that there is public-record information about California-licensed physicians and investigating complaints against physicians.

Torres is currently a Partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher in their litigation department. She previously spent time as a federal prosecutor who served as lead or co-lead in over 30 trials in federal and state courts. She received a commendation from the U.S. Secret Service Drug Enforcement Administration in 2020 and the FBI Director’s Award in 2019.
