Jane Y. Jeong (she/her) is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Special Education at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research investigates how special education law and policy reflect and reinforce broader hegemonic structures and ideologies. She examines how these forces shape the implementation of policy and the lived experiences of historically marginalized families navigating disability-related service systems.
Jeong’s dissertation, titled “Contested Rights: The Legal and Political Unraveling of IDEA’s Transition Protections for Students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities,” investigates how shifting legal and political landscapes are reshaping the transition experiences of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families from historically marginalized communities. Specifically, she explores how judicial decisions and state-level legislative actions influence the implementation and enforcement of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act’s (IDEA, 2004) transition provisions.
Jeong received her MS in Special Education and BS in Child Development from California State University, Fullerton. Visit her personal website here.
