Richard Pena, Past ABF Board President and Patron Fellow, Named as the 2024 NCBP Fellows Award Recipient

Richard Pena, Past ABF Board President and Patron Fellow, was named as the 2024 National Conference of Bar Presidents Fellows Award winner. Mr. Pena made history as the first Hispanic and minority president for both the Austin Bar Association in 1990 and the State Bar of Texas in 1998.

The award seeks to recognize those who have a dedication to the NCBP mission and a continuing commitment to bar leaders nationwide.  He was elected to the National Conference of Bar Presidents Executive Council in 2000 and remained there until 2003.

Mr. Pena is the President & CEO at Law Offices of Richard Pena law firm in Austin, Texas. In addition to serving as the ABF Board President from 2008-2010, he served as the National Fellows Chair from 2005-2006 and was on the ABF Board of Governors until August 2012. On behalf of his work and efforts to blaze a trail for Hispanic and minority attorneys, he has received several honors, such as the Spirit of Excellence Award from the ABA Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession, recognition as a Trailblazer by the State Bar of Texas, and the Difference Makers Award from the ABA General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Division, among others.
