m boulette, Fellow, and Paul M. Smith, ABF Board Member and Benefactor Fellow, were announced as two of the recipients of the American Bar Association’s Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity’s Stonewall Award. They will be presented with the award at the ABA Joint Spring Conference in April. The Stonewall award recognizes lawyers who have considerably advanced lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals in the legal profession and successfully championed LGBTQ+ legal causes.

m boulette founded boulette PLLC this year, to support clients in family law disputes, appellate litigation and LGBTQ+ community care. They were the first openly transgender president of the Hennepin County Bar Association and spent seven years on the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Board of Governors. They’ve also taught law school classes, presented more than 80 CLEs, and wrote a guide on family law.

Paul M. Smith is currently a visiting professor from practice at Georgetown Law, as he practiced before the U.S. Supreme Court for several decades and made 21 oral arguments there, including in cases like Lawrence v. Texas (2003) and serving as co-counsel on Gill v. OPM. He is also a Senior Advisor for the Campaign Legal Center, which he joined in January 2017.
