Professor Tiffany Williams Brewer, New Jersey Fellow, Becomes First African American Woman to Chair the NJ State Commission of Investigation

New Jersey professor, nonprofit founder, and Fellow Tiffany Williams Brewer has recently been appointed by Governor Phil Murphy to become the State Commission of Investigation’s first African American woman Chair. In her new role, Professor Williams Brewer will be leading an independent watchdog agency that has been empowered to investigate misuses of government tax dollars and instances of organized crime.   

Professor Williams Brewer is the founder and CEO of the Esther Project, a faith-based nonprofit providing leadership opportunities for girls and women. She has previously taught subjects such as Evidence, Legal Ethics, and Legal Writing at California Western School of Law, Prince Sultan University, Pepperdine Law, and Seton Hall University School of Law. In addition to her private practice experience at Mintz’s Boston office and Riker Danzig’s Morristown office, Professor Williams Brewer has served many roles in New Jersey government. She has worked as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Deputy Chief Counsel to Governor Jon Corzine, Chief Counsel to the Speaker in the General Assembly, and Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. She is also an ordained minister and a Co-Pastor at Transform Church, as well as a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and Rutgers University, where she received her undergraduate degree and Masters of Public Administration.
