February 21, 2014, Fellows in the news

John R. Wester, a litigator with Robinson Bradshaw & Hinson, P.A., has been named for the second consecutive year to BTI Client Service All-Stars, attorneys recognized by corporate counsel for client service excellence. Wester is one of five North Carolina lawyers included in the ranking. Robinson Bradshaw & Hinson was named to the 2014 Honor Roll in the BTI Client Service A-Team survey.

The BTI Client Service All-Stars are determined through one-on-one interviews with corporate counsel at Fortune 1000 organizations. BTI Consulting Group’s annual survey interviews more than 300 in-house counsel and direct reports. To earn recognition among the BTI Client Service All-Stars, attorneys must be singled out during the course of independent interviews with corporate counsel.

Wester tries cases and argues appeals involving corporate, partnership, and shareholder rights disputes, federal securities claims, unfair trade practice issues, tax controversies, and employment discrimination suits. He represents clients at each level of the federal and state trial and appellate courts, has extensive experience in the North Carolina Business Court, and argued as lead defense counsel for Ford Motor Company before the United States Supreme Court.

Wester was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1994. He served as the 115th president of the North Carolina Bar Association and is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Wester currently serves as chairman of the Access to Justice Council for Legal Aid of North Carolina and Legal Services of Southern Piedmont, on the board of directors of the North Carolina Museum of History and the Lynnwood Foundation and on the board of visitors of Duke University Law School.

Wester has received numerous professional honors, including recognition in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in Business Litigation and Labor & Employment since 2004; Best Lawyers® since 1993; Benchmark Litigation since 2008; and North Carolina Super Lawyers since 2006. Benchmark Appellate has recognized Wester as one of 10 attorneys identified as Fourth Circuit litigation stars in North Carolina; he has also been regularly included in Business North Carolina’s annual listing of the state’s “Legal Elite.”

Receiving his law degree with high honors from Duke University, Wester was awarded membership in the Order of the Coif, and served as note and comment editor of the Duke Law Journal. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina, where he was a John Motley Morehead Scholar.
