Hugh Stanley Receives William K. Thomas Professionalism Award

Tucker Ellis LLP is proud to announce that longtime partner Hugh Stanley has received The Honorable William K. Thomas Professionalism Award. The Ethics & Professionalism Committee of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association bestows the annual award upon a lawyer or judge who has significantly contributed to the enhancement of professionalism in the Greater Cleveland legal community by exemplifying and furthering the ideals set forth by the Ohio Supreme Court’s Commission on Professionalism and within the CMBA’s mission.

“Everyone who knows Hugh can tell you that he embodies the very spirit of ethics and professionalism,” said Tucker Ellis Managing Partner Joe Morford. “Hugh is the kind of lawyer who makes us proud to be a part of the legal profession. By his own example, he shows us that the Professional Ideals for Ohio Lawyers and Judges are more than just words printed on paper – they are words to live and practice by.”

In 1969, Mr. Stanley received his law degree at Georgetown University Law Center and joined Arter & Hadden as a trial lawyer focused on corporate, banking, insurance, antitrust commercial litigation, and professional responsibility. For the next 45 years he built a stellar reputation as “a lawyer’s lawyer” and “a gentleman-litigator” in the Greater Cleveland community, mentoring others and teaching by example his unwavering belief that no short-term case advantage is worth sacrificing a reputation established over years of practice, and that what matters as a trial lawyer is the respect and credibility in which others hold you.

Mr. Stanley is an original founder of Tucker Ellis LLP, established in 2003. Over the course of his career, he has received significant awards and professional recognition, including Chambers USA’s “Leaders in Their Field” (Ohio Litigation: General Commercial) and Benchmark Litigation’s “Litigation Star.” He is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Bar Foundation, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the International Society of Barristers, and the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. Mr. Stanley has been included consistently on top lawyer lists, including Leading Lawyers, Ohio Super Lawyers®, and The Best Lawyers in America®.
