D.C. Fellow, international family lawyer, and George Washington University lecturer Melissa Kucinski has released a new book, Family Law Across Borders: Cases and Comments, alongside co-authors Bruce Hale and Michael Coffee. The casebook, which is published by West Academic, examines strategies for managing complex family legal matters that stretch across borders and oceans. Family Law is Ms. Kucinski’s third book, following Becoming the Tech-Savvy Family Lawyer and A Practical Handbook for the Child’s Attorney.

Ms. Kucinski is an experienced global family mediator who works with the U.S. Department of State’s Advisory Committee on Private International Law and the Uniform Law Commission’s Joint Editorial Board for Uniform Family Laws. She has developed and given mediation trainings for international child custody and abduction cases, and chaired numerous related American Bar Association committees. She has also consulted for the Hague’s Child Protection and Child Abduction Conventions, going on to speak at a 5-year anniversary symposium celebrating the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ ratification of the latter.
